Exploring A Vision For The Future

The JCCs play a critical role in building a strong Jewish community now and for the future. As the most visited Jewish organizations in the Twin Cities, each week bringing thousands of people together, the JCCs have served our community for over 100 years – for our grandparents, our parents, our children, our friends, our neighbors. Our unparalleled level of inclusivity is what brings the entire community together, serving the needs of Jewish and secular communities alike.

Over the past several years, there has been a shift within the community to become one Twin Cities community. The JCCs recognize this shift, and as the demographics of the Jewish community continue to change, the JCCs must work together to achieve their missions and to stay sustainable for the long term.

To that end, The JCCs are developing a vision for the future of our organizations and determining the best path forward to accomplish that vision.

WHY?

For the past several years, the Sabes JCC and St. Paul JCC have been partnering with great success. From Fitness Center reciprocity to ECC staff development, fully merged Cultural Arts and marketing departments, and shared best practices across both organizations, the JCCs have proven that we are better when we work together.  This next November will bring the 4th Annual JEvent, a shared benefit that brings the community together to celebrate collaboration while raising needed funds for the two JCCs.

This is an optimal time for both JCCs to undergo this initiative.Together, the leadership from both Minneapolis and St. Paul understand the value of strategically planning for the future. Both JCCs have stable membership, growing fund development, excellent staff, strong leadership and a robust mix of enriching programming for all ages.

HOW?

There is a thoughtful and thorough process in place.
On January 1, 2019, the two JCCs entered into a Management Agreement, a critical step in developing a deeper understanding of the two JCCs. A Steering Committee, co-chaired by the board presidents and comprised of leaders from both the Minneapolis and St. Paul communities, has been formed to develop a vision for the future.

WHAT WILL THE STEERING COMMITTEE DO?

The Twin Cities JCCs Steering Committee will fully explore and assess the possibility and potential of a Twin Cities JCC with multiple campuses.  Their work will include six critical areas of study:

  • Communications & PR
  • Organizational Culture
  • Fundraising
  • Governance
  • Strategic Business Planning
  • Real Estate & Capital Improvements (which includes working with the Minneapolis Jewish Federation to full explore the opportunities at the Barry Family Campus and a long term plan to maintain the JCC facilities).

The Steering Committee may engage consultants, JCC stakeholders, community partners and field experts to help study our current organizations and best practices in the non-profit and business communities to develop the vision for the future.

Upon completion of their work, the Steering Committee will make a recommendation to both JCC Boards of Directors, who will ultimately make the final decision on how to move forward.
