Looking to learn something new? Look no further. Enlivening Jewish education runs the gamut at the JCC, from classes in text study, ethics and holidays to cooking and the arts. We are in dynamic partnership with Jewish agencies and synagogues, presenting community-wide learning opportunities such as ENGAGE!. We are also home to the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute, a project of Chabad of Greater St. Paul.

 

 

HEBREW TIME WITH TAL
THURSDAYS • 9:30 – 10:30 AM

Enjoy a morning coffee break, learn and speak a little Hebrew, this informal class is designed as an opportunity to meet and talk all things Israel with our Community Shlicha Tal Dror. This RAJE (Random Act of Jewish Education) is free and everyone is welcome.

LEGACY WRITING: CAPTURING FAMILY STORIES FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS WITH BRENDA HUDSON
THURSDAYS, JANUARY 31 – MARCH 28 (NO CLASS ON FEB 21) • 10 AM – NOON

Create a written legacy of your life! Have you always wanted to document your life stories for future generations, but have never gotten around to it, or known where to begin? Perhaps you have started, but are stuck or overwhelmed. Maybe you want to pen your stories just for yourself, without any intention of sharing. If any of these scenarios ring true, this class is for you. You will examine your past and construct written vignettes or “captured moments” of your life.  At the end of class, you will have a collection of stories and the know-how to continue your legacy writing, if desired.

OLLI: LEARNING THE LANGUAGE OF MUSIC

Designed for musical novices, this class will take a closer look at a variety of familiar and not-so- familiar musical examples with the goal of deepening your understanding and enhancing your music listening experience.

PIRKE AVOT: ANCIENT RABBINIC WISDOM FOR TODAY’S WORLD
FIRST AND THIRD FRIDAY OF THE MONTHS • 11 AM – NOON
FREE

The imperative to live life from your true self, as the image and likeness of God, flowers in the words of the early Rabbis (250 BCE–250 CE), who captured God’s call to be holy in Pirke Avot, a collection of pithy sayings on how best to live an ethical life. Come study this ancient work with much to say to our lives today. Drop in. No experience is necessary.

MEDITATION
SECOND AND FOURTH FRIDAY OF THE MONTH • 11 – 11:45 AM

Mindfulness meditation can support and sustain us in the busyness of today’s world. This practice helps to make our minds more spacious, perceptive, and free. Each session will include a short teaching followed by a sitting period. Other mindfulness practices will be introduced as well. Drop in. No experience is necessary.
