Camp Butwin Staff

Ben Savin
Camp Butwin Director

Ben Savin is the Youth and Camping Director at the St. Paul JCC. Ben has previously served the JCC community in a variety of roles, including Camp Butwin Assistant Director, JCC Maccabi Delegation Head, Youth Programs Coordinator, and Early Childhood Assistant Director. Ben holds a degree in English and Education, summa cum laude, from Hamline University, and is a graduate of JCC Association of North America’s highly selective Merrin Fellowship for youth work professionals. Ben believes that the real work of being a kid happens during the summer months, and that camp provides the venue for developing self-confidence, exploring new interests, and taking pride in being one’s self, all while fostering a love for the outdoors. In his spare time, Ben enjoys playing guitar, trying new foods, and exploring the Twin Cities by bike.

Bess Brown
Youth Coordinator & Assistant Camp Director

This is Bess’s third year at Camp Butwin and she’s geared up for another fun-filled summer. Bess grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and is a recent transplant to the Twin Cities. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Psychology where she focused on studying art therapy and child development. Bess is very passionate about camp as a place to not only have fun, but also help campers and counselors develop real-world skills. At her previous camp, Bess was very involved with bringing Jewish education and values into daily camp life and is excited to continue at Butwin! Bess loves trying new ice cream places in the Twin Cities and spends her time walking around the many lakes.

Tracey Agranoff
Jewish Life & Family Coordinator

Tracey is thrilled to be back at Camp Butwin this summer! A summer camp “lifer” Tracey has over 35+ camp summers under her belt in a variety of capacities (Camper, Counselor, Omanut (Arts & Crafts) Specialist, Assistant Director, Director and Jewish Education Coordinator) for a variety of camps throughout the US and Israel. She was also selected by JCCA (JCC Association) as a TAG Team Member, creating, training and promoting Jewish educational programming designed specifically for JCC summer camps. Her St. Paul JCC roles have been equally diverse over the past 15 years and she currently is the supporting cross-departmental Jewish programming and education.

“Camp has always been my happy place and I share that with my children both of whom grew up, attended and worked at Camp Butwin, the St. Paul JCC , as well as other Jewish overnight camps in Wisconsin. I have always believed that the greatest amount of personal, social, emotional and professional growth happens at camp, there is that special kehillah (community) created of common experience, support and understanding that cannot happen anywhere else.”
